Harry Kane’s Unprecedented Penalty Miss in Wolfsburg: FC Bayern Munich Striker Misses First Bundesliga Spot-Kick

Harry Kane’s penalties are usually a sure thing. Normally. Not in Wolfsburg: the Englishman shot well over the target.

Harry Kane showed a human side. At VfL Wolfsburg, the FC Bayern star striker stepped up to take his 25th Bundesliga penalty kick at the 0-0 scoreline in the 36th minute – and missed for the first time. For the goal-scoring guarantee from England, it was only the third miss from the spot since his move to FC Bayern in the summer of 2023, and the third of this season.

Prior to this, he had already failed in the Champions League in January against Union St. Gilloise (2-0) and in the first round of the DFB-Pokal against Wehen Wiesbaden (3-2) in August 2023. Kane’s league record, however, had been perfect – until Saturday evening.

Wolfsburg’s Belocian Scuffing the Penalty Spot

The 32-year-old slightly slipped during his attempt and sent the ball wide of the goal to the right. Before Kane, no other player had converted their first 24 Bundesliga penalties.

Jeanuel Belocian may have contributed to Kane’s mishap. The Wolfsburg defender prepared the penalty spot with his feet before the Bayern star took his shot, as shown by Sky during the halftime break.
