It seemed like a done deal that Nicolas Jackson would not be permanently signed by FC Bayern after his loan spell ended. Could things be about to change?
At FC Bayern Munich, there might be a change of heart and potentially even a permanent signing in the case of Nicolas Jackson.
According to The Sun, Vincent Kompany has been impressed by how the Senegalese player has behaved despite his reserve role behind Harry Kane. Jackson’s productivity when called upon to relieve Kane is also said to be impressing other Bayern decision-makers.
Therefore, a final decision on Jackson’s future at the German record champions has not yet been made and will only be decided at the end of the season. The 24-year-old’s loan expires on June 30. Jackson will then initially return to his parent club Chelsea, where he reportedly has no future.
Last summer, on a chaotic Deadline Day, Bayern agreed to a buy-back clause with the Blues for a reported €65 million. However, this clause could no longer be triggered well before the end of the season because Jackson had too rarely been in the Munich starting lineup. Furthermore, FCB had paid a record loan fee of €16.5 million to Chelsea.
Throughout the season at Bayern, Jackson was often criticized for lacking game connection compared to Kane. However, his form has recently improved. In the Bundesliga, as Kane’s replacement in his last four games (he missed two due to suspension), he scored three goals and provided two assists. When Kane injured his calf in early March, Jackson’s moment came in the Champions League during the crucial 6-1 victory over Atalanta in the first leg of the Round of 16.
It was also evident that the Kane and Jackson duo could harmonize. The Senegalese celebrated his goal for 4-0 by first hugging the injured English star striker. In 28 games, Jackson has nine goals and four assists in just over 1000 minutes played. At least the ratio of one goal involvement every 81.5 minutes is quite impressive.
FC Bayern and Nicolas Jackson: Too Much Points to a Separation
And yet, despite the positive impression Jackson has made on Kompany and the Bayern bosses in recent weeks, two specific events argue against another season for the striker in a Bayern shirt. Firstly, Bayern’s strong interest in signing Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United) is considered confirmed. And this would cost a lot of money. Furthermore, Gordon is not only intended to be a challenger for Luis Diaz on the left wing, but also the new backup for Kane – in other words, the new Nicolas Jackson.
Conversely, a permanent signing of Jackson by Bayern would likely only be considered if Chelsea significantly deviates from the €65 million stipulated as a buy-back clause in the loan deal. Since the Blues want to get the maximum out of selling their former top striker, who has a contract until 2033, and there is a market for him, it seems unlikely that Bayern would receive a very large discount.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan has already expressed interest in a permanent signing of Jackson.
