FC Bayern Thrashes Union Berlin 7-0, Kane Achieves Milestone
FC Bayern München is back on top of the Bundesliga, at least temporarily, after a resounding 7-0 victory against Union Berlin. Michael Olise was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick, while Harry Kane set a new record for the fastest 100 goals in the league.
The win propelled Bayern to first place, one point ahead of rivals Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund, who have yet to play their weekend matches. The Munich team seemed to find their rhythm, exploiting the increasing gaps in Union Berlin's defense. Olise, who was a constant threat throughout the match, scored a spectacular opening goal after receiving a neat layoff from Musiala just outside the penalty area.
Following Musiala's initial strike in the 18th minute, Bayern continued to press their advantage against a struggling Union Berlin side. Union had already been experiencing their worst start to a season since their promotion in 2019. Kane opened his scoring with a penalty in the 39th minute, marking his 100th Bundesliga goal and becoming the fastest player to reach this milestone. Olise added a second just before halftime.
The second half saw further goals from Kane in the 54th minute, the first career goal for Ismael Saibari in the 70th minute, and two more from Olise in the 73rd and 76th minutes. The dominant performance ensures a relaxed mood for the team's upcoming visit to Oktoberfest, which will take place without a mandatory match for the record champions for the first time.
Coach Vincent Kompany fielded what appeared to be his strongest lineup before the international break, with the only notable absentee being Konrad Laimer, who was sidelined with a minor adductor injury. His absence was not felt against a passive Union Berlin attack that offered little threat.
For nearly fifteen minutes, Bayern struggled to break down Union's defense. Musiala eventually found the breakthrough, mirroring his performance in the Champions League opener against Bodö/Glimt. The national player spotted an opening, took a shot from 17 meters, and scored into the far corner.
In between, Kane once again set a speed record. His powerfully converted penalty, awarded after Rothe fouled Olise, surpassed Dieter Müller's previous record for the fastest 100 Bundesliga goals, which took him 129 games. Since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, Kane has now scored 152 goals in 154 appearances for the club, placing him seventh on Bayern's all-time scoring list.
National player Serge Gnabry also made his comeback towards the end of the match. The only point of contention for the most loyal Bayern supporters seemed to be the unusual Oktoberfest-themed kits, which the players will not wear for the remainder of the 191st Oktoberfest celebration.
