FC Bayern’s Transfer Plans: Over 100 Million Euros for New Signings Hinges on Four Key Player Sales

FC Bayern Munich has set its sights on significant player acquisitions this summer, but this ambitious spending spree is contingent on successfully offloading four key players. The club aims to generate over 100 million euros in transfer fees to fund these new signings, according to reports from kicker.

A crucial prerequisite for this financial flexibility is the successful sale of players currently out on loan, including Alexander Nübel, Sacha Boey, Bryan Zaragoza, and Joao Palhinha. The club anticipates collecting approximately 40 million euros from these departures, which would then unlock the budget for investing in new star players.

The prospect of recouping substantial funds from the sale of Joao Palhinha appears particularly promising. The Portuguese midfielder, who was on loan at Tottenham Hotspur last season, is not part of Bayern’s future plans despite his contract running until 2028. While Spurs reportedly favored exercising their 30 million euro buy-out option, Palhinha is said to be keen on a return to Sporting Lisbon, where he previously rose to prominence and earned his place in the Portuguese national team. Negotiations are reportedly progressing well, though a loan with a mandatory purchase option is a potential scenario. Bayern would ideally prefer a permanent sale this summer, even if it means recouping less than the 51 million euros they paid to Fulham for Palhinha in 2024, as the expensive acquisition failed to make an impact in Munich.

Regarding goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, media outlets suggest Bayern is seeking a transfer fee in the range of 10 to 15 million euros. After a three-year loan spell with VfB Stuttgart, the Swabians are financially unable to meet the permanent transfer demands. Bayern’s leadership has repeatedly indicated that Nübel, despite his contract extending to 2029, has no future at the club. The goalkeeping department will continue to rely on the established trio of Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig, and Sven Ulreich next season.

Nübel’s next destination remains uncertain, with the Premier League being a rumored strong contender. Sport Bild recently reported interest from Manchester City. Juventus Turin has also reportedly expressed interest, and both clubs would be well-equipped to meet Bayern’s valuation.

Key Departures: Will FC Bayern Part Ways with Bryan Zaragoza and Sacha Boey?

Bryan Zaragoza is another player on the list of loanees whose potential sale is being explored. The situation for the Spanish attacker, who joined from FC Granada in 2024 but has only featured in seven competitive matches for Munich, may prove more complex than that of Palhinha and Nübel.

After being loaned to Celta Vigo in the first half of last season, Zaragoza moved to AS Roma on loan in the winter transfer window. Despite a promising start, his involvement with the Italian club diminished significantly, and he hasn’t played since mid-March, even before suffering a current knee injury. This decline was partly due to Roma realizing they would not exercise the 13 million euro purchase option for the 24-year-old. Consequently, Zaragoza spent weeks on the bench to prevent triggering clauses that would have made the purchase option a mandatory one.

Zaragoza will consequently return to FC Bayern, where his contract is valid until 2029. There have been no recent rumors about potential buyers, meaning Bayern may have to significantly lower their asking price if they wish to sell him immediately.

A similar scenario could apply to Sacha Boey, who is also slated for a sale. Ideally, he would be sold back to Galatasaray, where he has been on loan since early February and officially until the end of June. However, the loan spell with the Turkish champions, where the right-back initially made a name for himself internationally and for whom Bayern paid 30 million euros in early 2024, has not gone as smoothly as hoped. Boey was not a regular starter at Galatasaray and often found himself on the bench.

Adding to this, the Turkish club is reportedly not looking to activate Boey’s purchase option, which is believed to be set at 15 million euros. Recent reports suggest they would prefer to replace Boey with Zeki Celik, who will be available on a free transfer from Roma after his contract expires. Boey would then, like Zaragoza, initially return to Säbener Straße, with his contract valid until 2028. There might be interest from clubs beyond Galatasaray, with French clubs being frequently linked with the 25-year-old in the past.

Is FC Bayern Also Searching for a New Left-Back?

If all four players from the quartet – Palhinha to Boey – can be successfully sold, it would undoubtedly bolster Bayern’s transfer market flexibility. The club’s top priority in the transfer window is a versatile attacking player who can operate on the left wing and serve as a backup striker for Harry Kane. According to kicker, the role as Kane’s backup is considered the slightly more important profile sought by Bayern’s management.

This is partly because Nicolas Jackson, the only player primarily earmarked for this role, will be leaving Säbener Straße this summer. The Senegalese international is returning to Chelsea after his loan spell at FCB, and under new coach Xabi Alonso, he might still have a future there. Bayern’s decision not to exercise the purchase option for Jackson had been clear for months.

For the three attacking positions behind Kane, there are already five high-calibre options available: Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, and Lennart Karl. Furthermore, coach Vincent Kompany is reportedly considering integrating a sixth player for these positions into his squad in the form of Arijon Ibrahimovic. The 20-year-old FCB academy product performed well during his loan spell at 1. FC Heidenheim last season, and his contract with Bayern is valid until 2027. However, numerous clubs are reportedly showing interest in the German U21 international, with several Bundesliga clubs among those vying for his signature.

Bayern had reportedly been close to signing Anthony Gordon, an attacking player who perfectly fits the profile of a center-forward/left-winger. Reports suggested that FCB had reached an agreement with Gordon, but the England international ultimately opted for FC Barcelona. Other candidates mentioned in connection with Bayern include Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig) and Junior Kroupi (AFC Bournemouth), though both would likely come at a significant cost, with Diomande valued at over 100 million euros and Kroupi around 80 million euros.

If these deals materialize, it’s possible that not enough of the targeted 100 million euros in transfer funds would remain to secure a new left-back. According to kicker, FCB is actively exploring the market for a left-back in addition to their desired attacking player. Alphonso Davies, the usual incumbent in that position, is no longer considered an undisputed starter. Concerns are reportedly growing about the Canadian’s fitness due to frequent injury problems following his cruciate ligament tear last year.

As an alternative, Bayern has recently been linked with German World Cup hopeful Nathaniel Brown. According to Sport1, FCB officials have already met with representatives of the 22-year-old from Eintracht Frankfurt, for whom SGE is reportedly demanding a transfer fee of at least 60 million euros.

Brown himself has remained guarded regarding the Bayern transfer rumors: «Of course, I read it, but I want to focus on the World Cup now. I’ll see what happens afterwards. But right now, my full focus is on the World Cup,» said the German international.
