«You’re really smart»: BVB’s template king reacts irritably to transfer speculation inquiries

Manchester United has reportedly inquired about Julian Ryerson, according to Sky. However, any potential transfer hinges on numerous factors. If a move were to materialize, Dortmund would seek a minimum of €30 million for the Norwegian, who is under contract until 2028.

When asked about the rumors surrounding him last weekend, Ryerson, who has contributed 18 goal assists across all competitions this season and ranks second in the Bundesliga with 15 assists, only behind Bayern stars Michael Olise and Luis Diaz, responded to a reporter: «You’re really smart. You know more than I do. I have two years left on my contract here. So, I’m not thinking about it anymore.»

Dortmund’s Sporting Director had previously dismissed transfer rumors concerning Ryerson as «complete nonsense» several weeks ago.

Ryerson also reportedly highly rated by Barcelona

Ryerson was previously linked with FC Barcelona in December. According to Sky, discussions had taken place between the Catalan club and the 41-time international at that time. The Spanish champions were reportedly seeking an affordable backup for Jules Koundé. If the offer to Dortmund was substantial, Ryerson could have left the club then.

Transfer speculation surrounding Dortmund’s Ryerson

In February, it was reported that the English Premier League might not be Ryerson’s preferred destination for a potential departure, contrary to earlier assumptions. Instead, the Italian Serie A was said to be more appealing to the right-back. Previously, it had been reported that England or Spain could be possible options.

A move to England, according to reports, would only be considered if a top club experienced a sudden need due to injuries. In practice, the Italian league is considered «more realistic and possibly more enticing» for Ryerson. However, no concrete interested parties were named.

Ryerson’s versatility

Ryerson joined Dortmund from Union Berlin in January 2023 for approximately five million euros and immediately established himself in the starting lineup. He can be deployed at either full-back position.

To date, he has made 143 competitive appearances for the club, scoring seven goals and providing 24 assists for Borussia.
