Alexander Zverev will not be competing in his home tournament at the Hamburg Open. The reason for his absence and his potential participation in the French Open can be found here.
Preparations for the upcoming French Open in Paris (May 24 — June 7) are in full swing. Alexander Zverev had originally planned to use the ATP tournament in Hamburg at Rothenbaum to prepare for the most important clay-court tournament in tennis. However, this will not happen, as the Hamburg native is skipping the tournament in Germany.
The reason for Sascha’s withdrawal and whether his participation in Roland Garros is at risk is explained below by SPOX.
Alexander Zverev’s Absence from Hamburg Open and French Open Status
Germany’s number one player is missing from the ATP Hamburg Open due to an injury. As announced by the organizers, the 29-year-old has canceled due to persistent back problems. «This time I have to listen to my body and follow the advice of my medical team,» Zverev explained.
However, his participation in the French Open is not in jeopardy. «I can rest and get 100 percent fit for the French Open,» he announced. Following the withdrawal of defending champion Carlos Alcaraz due to injury, he will enter the tournament in the French capital as the second seed, behind Jannik Sinner.
