Uli Hoeneß Still Outraged Over Bayern Star’s Injury

Uli Hoeneß, honorary president of FC Bayern Munich, is still expressing strong dissatisfaction nearly a year after the injury sustained by Jamal Musiala.

Musiala suffered a broken fibula in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup in early July during a 0-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma slid into the German international’s legs while attempting to save a ball.

Musiala only made his comeback in mid-January and has since largely been a substitute as he slowly works his way back to top form.

«That was one of the most severe injuries one can have. That’s why it took an extremely long time,» Hoeneß stated in the podcast ‘Auf eine weiß-blaue Tasse’. He also offered insights into the potential issues stemming from Musiala’s injury: «The joint popped out of its socket, meaning our doctor, Dr. Hahne, put the joint back in place on the field. And during that process, cartilage might have been slightly damaged,» Hoeneß explained, adding, «If you have an ACL tear today, the ACL is replaced. But here, you simply have to hope that the cartilage recovers, that there are no pains.»

Gianluigi Donnarumma: ‘Very shocked about what happened’

Regarding Donnarumma’s action, which was not initially called as a foul, the former Bayern boss remained agitated. «When I saw that back then, what I consider a brutal foul by Donnarumma… He can’t say he didn’t intend it. Going in like that at the edge of the penalty area, with his 110 kilos, that was complete madness,» he fumed.

Donnarumma himself appeared visibly shaken during the match and broke down in tears as Musiala was stretchered off. He later apologized to the German. «I am very shocked about what happened, it was certainly not my intention to injure Musiala,» he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Oliver Kahn Advised Jamal Musiala to Skip the World Cup

As Musiala is still not in peak condition, Oliver Kahn, also a former Bayern boss, recently advised him to voluntarily withdraw from participation in the summer World Cup. However, neither the current FCB management nor the player himself were willing to consider this.

In the current season, the 23-year-old has scored four goals and provided four assists in 15 appearances across all competitions.
