Football superstar Lionel Messi is turning his attention to new ventures, shortly after announcing his departure from the Argentine national team.

The 39-year-old is becoming an owner of the Spanish club CD Eldense.

Eldense stated in a press release on Thursday that the acquisition by "one of the most significant figures in sports history in Spanish professional football" signals "a new, hopeful phase in the club's over one hundred-year history," founded in 1921.

The 19th-placed team in the Segunda División noted that the transaction is still "subject to the necessary approval" from the CSD, Spain's National Sports Council.

This is Messi's second foray into club ownership in Spanish football, following his purchase of fifth-tier club UE Cornellà. Messi himself will play his 208th and final international match on October 6th against Benin at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.
