Rabiot: I want to win the Champions League with Juve

Juventus midfilder Adrien Rabiot spoke to La Gazzetta Dello Sport newspaper.

On Pirlo’s departure

“I had a good relationship with him. I used his advice to improve for example on the positioning, on the movements to receive the ball, always with one or two touches. Those were the main indications of what he wanted to see on the pitch: receiving the ball and immediately directing the game, putting in speed.”

“I really appreciated the way he coached, the freshness he brought as a coach, with clear ideas even if we were not always able to put them into practice.”

“I also liked the passion and determination he puts into practice and into the match, the pre-match speeches, at the break. He is a person who is very passionate about his job, very close to Juventus, he puts his heart into it.”

“Perhaps some of us didn’t understand his ideas in the best possible way, such as the fact of defending with the 4-4-2 and then changing form in the other phases, perhaps leaving the preferred role.”

“However, I sent him a message to tell him that he deserved a little more time to demonstrate the quality of his ideas.”

“Unfortunately in today’s football at certain levels, there’s no time. I’m sorry because I appreciate him as a person, as well as as a coach who has allowed us to return to the Champions League and win two trophies, which are still a nice reward for a young coach like him.”

On Allegri’s return

“Two years ago, I signed for Juve also because I knew he was on the bench. Allegri is a coach who has won a lot with Juve, reaching the Champions League final twice.”

“I think he took advantage of these two years to better observe the evolution of football. I imagine that he will arrive with a great desire to do well.”

“I’m happy to finally be able to work with him, I adapted to Juve’s mentality and to the Italian championship, so I’m better than two years ago. But I’m also fit, determined to work, with a passion to win.”

On Cristiano Ronaldo

“Despite Juve’s complicated season, he managed to score more than anyone in Serie A. It makes me smile when I feel that Juve play better without him.”

“Criticism is inevitable, but I don’t always understand it. I also appreciate Ronaldo for his determination, passion and desire to aim higher and higher. An attitude that drags the rest of the team and the club upwards. There are few players like this, and it’s better to have them by your side.”

On Buffon’s departure

“He leaves a great void in Juve, to whom he has always given everything. He was a very important leader, even in difficult times. But it is normal that at 43 years old he wants to do something else.”

On his future

“I am fine at Juve, I feel appreciated by everyone, I recognize myself in the DNA of this club, in the culture of work and victory. I don’t see why I should leave.”

“I want to go back to winning the Scudetto, we have the quality and the team to do it. I want the national cups too, starting with the Super Cup against Inter: the opportunity to set up our rematch.”

“I want to win the Champions League that Juve has been missing for too long as well, I came here for that too.”

“And then I love this country. Among the many things in particular the contact with the people, more open, respectful and warm than in France.”
