Buffon: Juventus gave me everything

Juventus legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon spoke to DAZN microphones after his team’s 3-1 victory against Sassuolo.

“In the pre-match I was trying in some way to put pressure on myself. If I can’t do it and I approach it superficially, I can’t play football anymore. It’s my way of getting into the game, I knew it was important to us.”

Farewell without fans?

“I am happy with the greeting two years ago which was beautiful. It would have been embarrassing to do it again. I am happy with that magnificent memory.”

“It was a humble way to try to make it clear that even though I am 20 at Juve, I have always served everyone as the last wheel of the wagon.”

“When you have been in a company for a long time, one thinks that one has the urge to stay. When my father Adriano has friends who stay at home for more than three days, he begins to suffer. It’s my way of experiencing football. I gave everything to Juve and if I am still here it is thanks to me but above all thanks to Juve.’

This Juventus?

“It’s a strong but inconsistent Juve. This means that we have lost unthinkable points along the way. This is due to the characteristics of each of us. If you have to evaluate it, you don’t know what the reason is.”

“We lost 5 points with Fiorentina, 5 with Benevento. These are points that we never lost before. With 10 points more you can play the Scudetto. The difference is not qualitative.”

His anger after the Sassuolo goal

“I got irritated with the referee because in my opinion there was a foul that could be whistled. After 5 seconds they scored. Having conceded a goal made me turn the boxes.”

His return to Juve 2 years ago

“I have dozens of reasons why I returned to Juve and accepted this role. I tested myself as a man. I have always been captain, owner, leader. I have always been a comfort to the players who were on the bench, trying to stimulate.”

“Since I have been giving advice for 25 years, I wanted to measure myself in the role of someone on the bench. I think I have given everyone signs of reliability, I have always been positive.”

“If one day I will be a coach, I will be able to tell any player to stay on the bench because I was there too.”

On his future

“I say things serenely. I have nothing to hide. I arrived at Juve as a boy with a lot of enthusiasm and little balance. I leave after 20 years as a happy man. It is my most beautiful achievement.”

“For the future I will take 20-25 days, I have received some offers that I have to evaluate. I see what my stimuli will be. I can’t wage war alone, I’d like someone to give me enthusiasm.”
