The San Antonio Spurs, led by a spectacular Victor Wembanyama, have forced a decisive Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. After a disappointing Game 5, «Wemby» delivered a stellar performance in Game 6, propelling the Spurs to a resounding victory and tying the series at 3-3.
The atmosphere in San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center was electric as the Spurs secured a comfortable win over the Thunder, who experienced their worst quarter of the season. MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had an uncharacteristically quiet night, while Wembanyama showcased his potential in a high-pressure must-win game.

Wembanyama, who had faced scrutiny after a subdued performance in Game 5, immediately made his presence felt in Game 6. Following an early three-pointer and a quick exchange of baskets, the French phenom took charge. He hit consecutive three-pointers over Isaiah Hartenstein and blocked a shot, quickly giving the Spurs a 9-2 lead and forcing an early timeout from OKC coach Mark Daigneault.

The Thunder struggled to contain Wembanyama, who had been effectively guarded by Hartenstein in the previous game. However, in Game 6, Wembanyama dominated, hitting multiple shots directly over his defender in the first quarter. The rest of the Spurs team mirrored their star’s intensity, sinking eight three-pointers in the first twelve minutes, a franchise playoff record for a single quarter. This offensive explosion gave them a well-deserved 35-22 lead.
SGA Disappoints — OKC’s Worst Quarter of the Season
Wembanyama continued his hot streak into the second quarter, amassing 22 points and 6 rebounds by halftime. On the other side, Cason Wallace emerged for OKC, scoring eleven points in the second quarter to help keep the Thunder within striking distance. Despite Wallace’s efforts, Wembanyama had the final say at both ends of the court, scoring a tip-in and forcing Gilgeous-Alexander into a missed layup at the buzzer.
It was not SGA’s night, as he finished with a mere 15 points, yet still led his team in scoring. He missed all five of his three-point attempts and only managed three free throws. The third quarter saw a complete collapse from the Thunder. After Chet Holmgren made it 70-62 with under ten minutes remaining, OKC went on a scoring drought, missing thirteen consecutive attempts and going scoreless for an extended period.
During this slump, the Spurs went on a remarkable 20-0 run, the largest such run against the Thunder in their playoff history, even with Wembanyama resting on the bench for a significant portion of it. The Spurs outscored OKC 32-13 in the third quarter and cruised in the fourth. The Thunder, who never held a lead in the game, recorded their lowest-scoring quarter of the season and the fewest points in a quarter during these playoffs since 2016.
Wemby Joins Robinson and Duncan — Young Talent Harper Shines
With the game decided, Wembanyama was able to rest for the final stretch, playing just over 28 minutes. His stat line was impressive: 28 points (10/21 FG, 4/9 3FG, 4/4 FT), 10 rebounds (4 offensive), 2 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks. He joined Spurs legends David Robinson and Tim Duncan as the only players in franchise history with at least five postseason games of 25 points and 5 rebounds.
Wembanyama received valuable support from promising young player Dylan Harper, who made a significant impact off the bench with 18 points (6/9 FG), 6 rebounds, and 4 assists after a few quieter outings. Stephon Castle flirted with a double-double (17 points, 9 assists), and Devin Vassell (12 points) and Julian Champagnie (10 points) also scored in double figures. De’Aaron Fox’s struggles (5 points, 1/9 FG) prevented the Spurs from achieving even better shooting percentages.
OKC, on the other hand, shot just one in four from beyond the arc. Following SGA, Josh Giddey was their second-highest scorer with 13 points, earning another start despite Jalen Williams’ return from a hamstring injury. Williams played limited minutes off the bench, missing his only shot attempt and committing two turnovers.
Cason Wallace’s eleven points in the second quarter were his only significant offensive contribution. Chet Holmgren managed a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Isaiah Hartenstein added 10 points (5/10 FG), 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in just 16 minutes. Alex Caruso, with 7 points, acknowledged the upcoming do-or-die nature of Game 7: «It’s Game 7. It’s just one game now.»
