FC Bayern Eyes 80 Million Euro Striker Junior Kroupi: Thierry Henry Praises «Raw Talent»

Following unsuccessful attempts to sign Anthony Gordon, FC Bayern Munich has reportedly set their sights on an attacker who has impressed striking legend Thierry Henry.

According to Absolut Bayern, the German record champions are closely monitoring Junior Kroupi from Premier League club AFC Bournemouth. Scouts from Bayern are said to be keeping a keen eye on the 19-year-old.

The transfer fee for Kroupi would be substantial. Bournemouth is reportedly seeking around 80 million Euros for the technically gifted attacker, who also possesses a good finishing ability. Kroupi is under contract with the sixth-placed Premier League side until 2030.

Furthermore, Bayern would likely face significant competition for the French U21 international. Earlier in May, reports emerged of interest from FC Barcelona, and Kroupi is also said to be highly regarded by English giants such as Manchester City and Arsenal.

French legend Thierry Henry is a prominent admirer of the player. «I’m not surprised by his development,» Henry told Sky Sports about his compatriot. He recalled wanting to nominate Kroupi for the French U21 squad years ago when the player was just 16. «It didn’t quite work out because he hadn’t even played for the U17, U18, or U19 teams yet,» Henry explained, adding, «But when I see a player with this raw talent and this desire, I don’t care about the age.»

FC Bayern: Junior Kroupi Offers Offensive Versatility

Kroupi developed through the youth ranks of French Ligue 1 club FC Lorient. He made his professional debut for Lorient at the age of 16. Bournemouth paid 13 million Euros for his transfer in February 2025, though Kroupi remained at Lorient on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, where he scored 22 goals in 30 games to help his boyhood club secure promotion back to France’s top flight.

Kroupi’s transition to the Premier League with Bournemouth was successful after an initial adjustment period, with his performances particularly shining in the latter stages of the past season. In total, the youngster netted 13 goals in 33 Premier League appearances. For Bayern, who ideally aim to sign a player capable of operating in multiple offensive positions this summer, Kroupi’s flexibility is also a significant attraction. He can play as a central striker, a withdrawn attacking midfielder, or on the wings.

Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United was previously considered Bayern’s preferred target for a role that would challenge Luis Diaz on the left and provide backup for Harry Kane as a number nine. However, Gordon is now reportedly set to join FC Barcelona.

In recent weeks, alongside Gordon, Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig has also been strongly linked with Bayern. However, the creative attacker would likely cost well over 100 million Euros and is reportedly more inclined towards a move to Liverpool. Paris Saint-Germain is also said to have a strong interest in Diomande.
