Leon Goretzka Highlights a Special Aspect of FC Bayern That Can’t Be Imagined From the Outside

Leon Goretzka is set to leave FC Bayern in the summer, potentially after achieving the greatest possible success. As the season nears its end, he looks back.

Once more with feeling! Leon Goretzka sees parallels between the current FC Bayern, chasing a treble, and the treble-winning team of 2020 that secured the league title, the DFB-Pokal, and the Champions League. He believes there’s a good chance to repeat that feat six years later with all the trimmings.

«I’m really eager to repeat 2020, but this time with our fans. That would be something else,» Goretzka, who will depart Bayern in the summer after eight years, told the club magazine 51. His first treble six years ago occurred during the pandemic, and the Champions League final victory against Paris Saint-Germain (1-0) in Lisbon was played behind closed doors.

However, sportingly, there are parallels. The «sense of entitlement» from back then has «returned in recent weeks,» Goretzka noted. While this isn’t a guarantee for winning the Champions League, «there’s that special feeling that you might get once or twice in your career with luck. We have a team where every part fits together. We have individual quality and, at the same time, this hunger, this willingness to run.»

Goretzka Raves About FC Bayern: «It’s Very Special!»

After his departure, he will look back with immense «gratitude» on «a wonderful, intense, special time that I will certainly miss.» What makes Bayern so special? «From the outside, you can’t imagine how warm the dressing room is,» Goretzka stated.

«Yes, it’s incredibly competitive, a lot is demanded of you – but at the same time, I felt secure from day one,» he shared. «That you can compete for the biggest titles in football in such a familial environment, that mix is very special.»

And the 31-year-old, who is reportedly close to an agreement with AC Milan, deeply hopes that this will continue. «The ‘Mia san mia’ must be preserved, the torch must always be passed on.»

Leon Goretzka’s Performance Data for FC Bayern Munich this Season:
