Fagioli: 'My biggest dream is the World Cup with Italy'
Facing a France squad full of stars, including Zidane on the bench, will be an indescribable emotion and a tough challenge. So said Nicolò Fagioli to Rai Sport from the Coverciano training camp, where he's back in the Azzurri jersey after a long break.
"I didn't expect this call-up, but I'd hoped for it intensely," added the Fiorentina midfielder. "It was crucial to secure a result, both for our standing and for confidence. Things didn't go perfectly against Belgium, though we showed a good reaction in the second half."
What's my dream? To go to the World Cup with Italy. It's my biggest dream. I've matured a lot, gained more self-assurance, become bolder in some areas and more determined in others. Yet, I still value sensitivity, being a very emotional person. I knew I needed to improve in certain aspects, and I've managed it. Now, I'm confident I can perform well."
He also defended young teammate Alessandro Romagnoli, who debuted against Belgium, against criticism. "Social media can elevate you quickly with minimal effort, only to bring you down with the slightest mistake. Romagnoli made one misplaced pass in the opponent's half, and unfortunately, it led to a goal. These things happen and will happen countless times," Fagioli smiled. "He's very young and will improve, even though he's already good. He's also a great person, which is what matters most. He shouldn't worry; the whole team is behind him. We can't control outside noise, but it's not important."
