Seeking a new work-life balance for further success: With her transfer to Borussia Dortmund, Alexandra Popp also aims to create a fresh start in her self-management.
«I want to try to take more time for myself off the pitch. I want to be more balanced,» said the 35-year-old former national team captain, who is leaving VfL Wolfsburg in the summer after 14 years, in a Sport1 interview. «In Dortmund, I can spend more time with my friends, be out in nature more, and walk my dog. I’m currently getting my hunting license – I simply want to create a balance.»
And then, with as much fun as possible, she wants to tackle her new role with the current third-division club from Westphalia. «Football works for me not through forced effort, but through the feeling of why I’m doing this at all,» said Popp, who is currently recovering from a muscular injury and still has one big goal at the end of her successful time at VfL: the Cup final against FC Bayern on May 14th in Cologne.
«Of course, with my calf, it’s still going to take a little while, but the rehab phase is going very well, and we remain optimistic,» Popp said. «We have the Cup final firmly in our sights.»
