Luca Vildoza: Prosecutors Seek Dismissal of Assault Charges After Ambulance Incident
The Bologna Public Prosecutor's Office has formally requested the dismissal of charges against Luca Vildoza, the Argentine playmaker for Virtus Bologna, and his wife, Milika Tasic. The couple had been under investigation for alleged assault stemming from an incident on the evening of October 15th. The alleged altercation involved a Red Cross ambulance worker on the city's ring road.
This request for dismissal comes over a month after the couple received a notice of the conclusion of the investigation, which allowed their defense lawyers, Giulia Maria Bellipario and Mattia Grassani, to submit new evidence and memorandums. "We have always had full confidence in the work of the Public Prosecutor's Office," commented attorney Grassani. He added, "This is a crucial step towards ascertaining the truth, which can only be one: the complete innocence of the Vildoza couple regarding any accusation. We await the detailed dismissal request from the magistrate and will then evaluate our next steps."
The Facts
The incident occurred following a EuroLeague game between Virtus and Monaco. After the match, a heated confrontation reportedly took place between the Vildozas and ambulance personnel who had arrived in the ring road area. The health worker subsequently filed a complaint, and while the couple was initially arrested by police, they were released shortly after. The Public Prosecutor's Office had decided not to proceed with a fast-track trial.
On January 13th, the investigating judge (GIP) did not validate the arrest, citing the absence of conditions for immediate or near-immediate apprehension. The judge also emphasized the lack of immediate objective evidence at the time of the incident to support the victim's account.
Now, the Public Prosecutor's Office has formally requested the case's dismissal. Grassani further explained that "the request for dismissal has already been notified by the Public Prosecutor's Office to the injured party. We expect to receive a copy within the next day or two. It appears to be a lengthy and detailed document, explaining the reasons why, according to the prosecution, the initial serious accusations cannot be substantiated, and there are insufficient grounds to send the two suspects to trial." The complainant, the Red Cross worker, now has 30 days to object to the Public Prosecutor's request for dismissal.
