Nevertheless, all eyes remained on the two protagonists. Evenepoel, still dazed and confused by the incident, struggled to comprehend what had happened. Vingegaard, for his part, explained his act of fair play: "I don't know what happened to him, it was a bit of a crazy crash, I saw him lose control of the handlebars. Naturally, I didn't want to take any advantage from that situation, I slowed down and let the peloton catch me. I really didn't expect his crash at all. We thought the stage would end in a sprint, then suddenly I saw Remco go, and I went after him. We worked together, and he was very strong." The Volta a Catalunya still promises great excitement, with three mountain finishes from Thursday to Saturday, before the grand finale in Barcelona, on the Montjuïc Olympic circuit.
