FC Bayern Pushes for Harry Kane Extension Before World Cup

FC Bayern Munich is reportedly aiming to quickly secure a contract extension with Harry Kane.

According to Sky, the English striker’s new contract is expected to be finalized before the World Cup kicks off on June 11th.

The German record champions have reportedly received positive signals from the striker and his family, represented by his brother Charlie and father Pat. It’s no secret that Bayern wishes to continue working with Kane. Former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reiterated this in no uncertain terms.

‘It’s known that he had a release clause. He didn’t exercise it, thus signaling that he will definitely stay in Munich. And now the responsible individuals in the operational department – that’s how it’s been discussed – will hold talks with him sometime after the season,’ Rummenigge explained in an interview with t-online published on Monday, emphasizing: ‘With the clear goal of extending his contract.’

Sporting Director Max Eberl also commented on the plans with Kane during FC Bayern’s trip to Paris for the Champions League semi-final first leg against PSG. ‘Kalle said it, but that is the voice of the club. This has been discussed with Harry. We will sit down before the World Cup and try to construct something together,’ he said.

Harry Kane at FC Bayern: ‘Transformation into a Playmaking Striker’

Kane transferred from Tottenham Hotspur to Munich in the summer of 2023 for a rumored 100 million euros and has since scored 138 goals in 141 games. However, the England captain has become much more than just a classic goalscorer for Bayern. Under coach Vincent Kompany, the 32-year-old has undergone a ‘transformation’ into a ‘playmaking striker,’ according to Rummenigge, who highlighted Kane’s importance to FCB’s play. The signing was described as an ‘important coup’.

Kane’s current contract runs until 2027. If no agreement is reached, he could begin negotiating a free transfer with other clubs from January onwards. Kane himself has repeatedly stated in the recent past that he feels very comfortable in Munich.

This seems to put a potential return to the Premier League, which has been consistently speculated, on hold for now. The primary reason for these speculations has been the possibility of Kane breaking Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record.

Comeback in the Premier League? Harry Kane Can Break a Major Record

The striker legend leads the all-time scoring list in England with 260 goals. Due to his outstanding performance for his former club Tottenham, Kane is just 47 goals behind. Towards the end of last year, Shearer himself spoke of a potential comeback for Kane.

‘Knowing Harry, I know he wants my record,’ he said. At the same time, the 55-year-old admitted: ‘I don’t know what his situation is and whether he’ll stay in Germany or not. But yes, let him stay there for two or three more years!’

Kane, on the other hand, had reaffirmed his commitment to Bayern shortly before, reporting an interesting turn of events. ‘If you had asked me when I went to Bayern, I would have certainly said that I would return at some point. Now, after two years, that has changed a bit. But I wouldn’t say I’ll never come back. Right now, I’m fully committed to Bayern.’
