FC Barcelona is reportedly giving serious consideration to the possibility of Robert Lewandowski departing the club this summer.
The contract of the Polish striker, who will turn 38 in August, is set to expire at the end of the season. As of yet, there are no clear indications that the Catalan giants intend to extend their star goalscorer’s contract. Instead, transfer journalist Matteo Moretto, speaking on the podcast of the Spanish sports newspaper Marca, has linked a new name with a move to Barcelona: Alexander Sörloth from Atletico Madrid.
Barca has reportedly already made concrete inquiries to the Norwegian, asking if he would be open to a transfer. The 30-year-old is a key player for Los Colchoneros, though he often comes off the bench. This season, he has managed to score 17 goals in 47 competitive appearances. The former Leipzig player’s market value is estimated at 20 million euros.
Vedat Muriqi is Also Reportedly on Barcelona’s Radar
The Spanish sports newspaper Sport has put forward another name being considered by Barcelona: Vedat Muriqi of Real Mallorca. The Kosovan, at 31 years old, is also highly experienced and is reportedly available for less than his contract’s release clause of 40 million euros.
With 21 goals in 30 league games, he currently ranks second in LaLiga’s top scorers list, trailing only Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid.
In the recent past, prior to signing Lewandowski, Barcelona has occasionally opted for experienced, strong aerial forwards. For instance, in the 2021/22 season, the Catalans brought in Luuk de Jong on loan from FC Sevilla.
With Lewandowski leading the line, Barca, under coach Hansi Flick, is on course to defend their LaLiga title. They currently hold a nine-point lead over their closest rivals and arch-enemies, Real Madrid.
