Borussia Dortmund is reportedly considering the future of goalkeeper Diant Ramaj, who is currently on loan to 1. FC Heidenheim, with a sale not being ruled out.
According to reports, the club is still undecided on how the 24-year-old’s career will progress after the current season. Ramaj was acquired by Dortmund from Ajax Amsterdam in February 2025 for a transfer fee of five million euros. Dortmund immediately loaned him to FC Copenhagen. Before the current season, Ramaj moved to Heidenheim, as he believed he would receive more attention there compared to playing in the Danish league.
Ramaj’s sporting performance with FCH has not been optimal this Bundesliga season, with Heidenheim currently at the bottom of the league table and facing a high risk of relegation. The team, along with Wolfsburg, has conceded the most goals in the league with 66. However, Ramaj has consistently distinguished himself with strong saves. A small glimmer of hope appeared last weekend when Ramaj kept his first clean sheet in a 2-0 victory against FC St. Pauli. Prior to this, he had been the last starting goalkeeper in major European leagues to concede a goal in every match played.
Diant Ramaj’s Ambition: Not Content with a Backup Role at BVB
Dortmund’s consideration of selling Ramaj is partly due to the confident goalkeeper’s unwillingness to be a backup. A year ago, Ramaj clearly stated to Sport Bild, «I have to play. Therefore, it is clear to me: I will not sit on the bench in Dortmund.»
This exact scenario seems likely should he return to Borussia Dortmund in the summer, as Gregor Kobel is firmly established as the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper. There are currently no transfer rumors surrounding the Swiss goalkeeper, indicating that the 28-year-old will also begin the upcoming season as Dortmund’s starting keeper. The second-choice position behind Kobel is held by the experienced Alexander Meyer (35).
