Borussia Dortmund Faces Potential Star Absence: Guirassy’s Health and Summer Training Camp Changes

Borussia Dortmund might be forced to play without a key star this weekend. Additionally, a planned summer event is reportedly being canceled. Here’s the latest news and rumors concerning BVB.

BVB Rumor: Serhou Guirassy Potentially Out Against Freiburg

Borussia Dortmund is growing concerned about Serhou Guirassy ahead of their upcoming match against SC Freiburg. The striker could miss this weekend’s game.

Guirassy scored in the previous match against TSG Hoffenheim (1-2), temporarily equalizing, but he was reportedly already injured. According to Sky, the forward suffered a concussion during a defensive action in his own penalty area.

The incident occurred in the 84th minute: Guirassy was brought down by Ozan Kabak while attempting to clear the ball. While the Hoffenheim defender received no personal penalty, the consequences for the Dortmund player were significant. The concussion was only diagnosed after the final whistle.

The effects are still being felt: Guirassy has been unable to train since the weekend. His participation in the Freiburg match is now uncertain, with a final decision expected later this week.

An absence would be particularly painful for BVB. With 19 goals and six assists across all competitions so far, Guirassy is Dortmund’s most dangerous attacking player this season.

BVB Rumor: Borussia Dortmund Reportedly Forgoes Summer Training Camp

Borussia Dortmund is reportedly restructuring its summer plans, according to the Ruhr Nachrichten, in response to an unusual calendar.

Following a one-off stay in Saalfelden, Austria, in the summer of 2025, the next step is being taken: BVB will completely forgo a traditional training camp in preparation for the 2026/27 season. Instead, the focus, apart from a planned trip to Asia at the end of July, will be on training at their home facilities.

The primary reason for this adjustment is the dense schedule of matches and tournaments. The upcoming World Cup means that many Dortmund professionals will have very little time for recovery. Immediately after an intensive season, many international players will be participating in another major event.

Internally, the plan is reportedly to give all professionals involved in the World Cup at least a three-week break after their teams are eliminated. However, this also highlights the dilemma of the tight schedule: in the worst-case scenario, the next phase of preparation would begin immediately after this holiday, with no significant transition period. This would leave affected players with little room to gradually reintegrate into the club rhythm after their tournament and rest.
