Will BVB Strike Now? Bundesliga Club Announces Departure of Two Key Players

Union Berlin is set to bid farewell to three players during their final home game of the season on Saturday at 3:30 PM against FC Augsburg. Will BVB make a move for one of them?

The club announced on Thursday that Diogo Leite, Danilho Doekhi, and Alex Kral will be leaving at the end of the season.

Leite and Doekhi form a well-established defensive partnership, having accumulated a combined 135 competitive appearances for the Köpenickers. Leite has been under contract since 2023, and Doekhi even longer. Kral has played a total of 53 matches for Union. The midfielder joined on loan from Espanyol Barcelona in 2023 before being permanently signed.

Doekhi, in particular, has recently been linked with BVB. The 27-year-old is known for his aerial prowess, especially from set pieces. This season, he has scored seven goals, including a brace in the first half of the season during a 2-2 draw against FC Bayern.

BVB: Doekhi Could Step into Süle’s Role

At Borussia Dortmund, he could become the second defender they seek, following the announcement of Joane Gadou’s signing earlier this week. He might fill the role vacated by Niklas Süle, who is leaving the club at the end of the season and retiring from football.

In addition to the players, two members of the coaching staff will also depart: goalkeeping coach Michael Gspurning, who has been with Union since 2017, and physiotherapist Silvio Thieme. The farewell ceremony will take place on Saturday before the kickoff at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
