Vincent Kompany: «I will give him peace» — Bayern coach will not interfere in DFB case regarding Manuel Neuer

Vincent Kompany has once again lauded Manuel Neuer in the highest terms, but the coach of German champions Bayern Munich stated he will not meddle in the World Cup squad planning of national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Nagelsmann now has «this full pressure of putting together the squad for the World Cup,» Kompany said ahead of Saturday’s (3:30 PM) season finale against 1. FC Köln, adding: «I will give him the peace to build his squad without me offering an opinion.»

Indirectly, however, the Belgian did just that. After all, FC Bayern has «the best German goalkeeper» in Neuer. Whether he also has to go to the World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada (June 11 to July 19)? Nagelsmann will answer this question at the latest on Thursday during his squad nomination in Frankfurt/Main. According to various media reports, Neuer’s name is at least being discussed.

In Munich, the 40-year-old is expected to extend his contract by another year, even though there is no official confirmation from the club yet. «We are talking and it looks good, but there’s nothing to announce yet,» said Sporting Director Max Eberl on Friday.
