Relegation-threatened Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are fighting to avoid a drop into the English Championship.
On Sunday evening, Roberto de Zerbi’s team secured a surprising 2-1 (2-0) victory away at Champions League hopefuls Aston Villa, placing them in a non-relegation spot for the first time in a month.
Thanks to a strong first half performance, Tottenham is now unbeaten in three consecutive games, with this being their second win in a row.
With just three matches left in the season, Spurs, battling their first relegation since 1977, have accumulated 37 points. This puts them one point ahead of 18th-placed West Ham United. FC Burnley and bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers have already been relegated.
Tottenham Celebrates Surprise Victory in Relegation Battle
Conor Gallagher (12′) and Brazilian striker Richarlison (25′) put Spurs on the winning path early on. In the second half, the visitors increasingly focused on defense.
Emiliano Buendia’s consolation goal for Aston Villa came too late (90’+6).
