Inter Milan Secures Italian Championship Title

Jubilation in black and blue: Inter Milan has won the Italian championship for the 21st time.

The team, including German player Yann Bisseck, prematurely secured the Scudetto on Sunday evening with a 2-0 victory against Parma Calcio. With three games left in the season, the Nerazzurri are now uncatchable at the top of the league table.

Former Gladbach player Marcus Thuram (45.+1.) and ex-Dortmund player Henrikh Mkhitaryan (80.) scored for Inter, marking their 26th league win of the season.

The Milan club now leads SSC Napoli, last year’s champions, by twelve points. Even a draw would have been sufficient for Inter to clinch the title. Bisseck, who has one cap for the German national team, was in the starting lineup.

Will Inter Milan also win the Coppa Italia after the Scudetto?

Coach Simone Inzaghi’s team also has a chance to achieve their first double since the 2010/11 season. In the Coppa Italia final on May 13th, Inter, featuring former Bundesliga professionals Yann Sommer, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Thuram, Mkhitaryan, and Manuel Akanji, will face Lazio Rome. In the Champions League, the traditional club was sensationally eliminated in the round of 16 by an underdog, Bodø/Glimt.

After a minute of silence for the deceased former racing driver Alex Zanardi, Inter started cautiously at the sold-out San Siro stadium. It wasn’t until the 25th minute that Inter became dangerous, with a shot from Nicolò Barella hitting the underside of the crossbar. Shortly before halftime, Thuram scored, and Mkhitaryan sealed the victory, allowing the grand championship party to begin.
