Top European Clubs Eyeing Rafael Leao Transfer Before World Cup

AC Milan’s offensive talent, Rafael Leao, is reportedly drawing the attention of several elite European clubs.

According to information from the English publication Daily Mail, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool FC, and Real Madrid are all considering a summer transfer for the Portuguese international.

It is understood that all the aforementioned clubs have already made inquiries regarding Leao. The apparent objective is to finalize any potential transfer before the World Cup, thereby preventing a possible increase in price following a strong performance in the tournament.

Leao is recognized as one of Europe’s most outstanding wingers and is expected to play a key role for Portugal in the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. In the current Serie A season, the attacker has scored ten goals. However, he is reportedly unhappy with the team’s sporting development, as Milan appears set to concede the title race to city rivals Inter.

Reports suggest that Milan is generally open to offers for several key players to meet financial regulations and create financial flexibility. The reported transfer fee for Leao stands at approximately 70 million Euros. This sum is considered relatively attractive among top clubs for a player of his caliber and age.

Leao Has Two Years Left on His Milan Contract

Recent speculation about a rift with coach Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly unfounded. Leao’s contract with Milan extends until 2028.

At Manchester United, interim coach Michael Carrick has confirmed the club’s search for a high-profile winger. The financial capacity for such a move is significantly dependent on securing Champions League qualification.

Liverpool is also exploring the market for a potential successor to Mohamed Salah. Concurrently, the Reds are considering younger options but are facing high demands, including those from RB Leipzig for Yan Diomande.

Leao’s 145 Goal Contributions for Milan

At Manchester City, squad changes may occur regardless of Pep Guardiola’s future as manager. Sporting director Hugo Viana is already working on potential adjustments, especially as the departure of key players is not ruled out. Real Madrid is also planning a squad refresh, particularly in their attacking department, following an overall inconsistent season under Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa.

Leao is versatile, capable of playing on the wing and as a striker, and is particularly praised for his pace and dribbling ability. Since his move from OSC Lille in 2019, he has scored 80 goals and provided 65 assists for Milan in 287 competitive appearances to date.
