While basketball is a central focus for NBA stars Franz and Moritz Wagner, it’s not the only thing that matters in their lives. The World Cup-winning brothers’ family makes a conscious effort to discuss other topics. Beate Wagner, their mother, revealed in an interview with undrafted that there’s a family rule: «We generally only talk about basketball if the boys want to.»
This policy is strictly adhered to by Beate and her husband, Axel Schulz, whether they are in Florida or connecting via FaceTime. «As parents, we don’t initiate the conversation,» Beate explained. «As a mom, that’s sometimes very difficult for me because I’m itching to know what’s going on.»
Moritz Wagner transitioned from the Michigan Wolverines college team to the NBA in 2018, followed by Franz in 2021. Since then, the brothers from Berlin have played side-by-side for the Orlando Magic.
The Florida-based team has their first opportunity to secure a playoff ticket through the Play-In Tournament against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night (01:30 CEST/Prime Video). They finished the regular season in eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
