A surprising summer transfer could be on the horizon for Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson.
Transfer expert Matteo Moretto reports that Alisson has already reached a verbal agreement with Juventus Turin.
The Brazilian’s departure would be unexpected, given that he only extended his contract with Liverpool by another year until 2027 in mid-March. According to media reports, the English top club had an option that was activated.
Moretto states that Liverpool will analyze their goalkeeper situation in the coming weeks and then decide whether to let Alisson leave. Fabrizio Romano also links the 33-year-old with Juventus, reporting that the Bianconeri are looking to sign a top goalkeeper in the summer and Alisson is their preferred candidate. The Brazilian national team goalkeeper reportedly likes the idea of returning to Italy, where he previously played for AS Roma from 2016 to 2018.
However, out of respect for his long-standing club Liverpool, he wants to carefully listen to the Reds’ plans for the near future. According to Romano, discussions between all parties are imminent regarding whether Liverpool plans to have Alisson or his replacement, Giorgi Mamardashvili, in goal from the upcoming season.
Liverpool signed the 25-year-old Georgian in 2024 as Alisson’s long-term successor. After a one-year loan spell back to Valencia, Mamardashvili finally joined the team last summer.
Will Alisson Arrive? Juventus Turin Seeks a New Top Goalkeeper
Alisson remained the number one choice but has had to miss time due to injuries this season, and is currently out with a thigh injury. This has led to Mamardashvili making several appearances this campaign.
Liverpool paid a transfer fee of €72.5 million to Roma for Alisson in 2018. The goalkeeper has been a crucial component of their great successes in the following years, including the Champions League triumph in 2019 and two Premier League titles in 2020 and 2025. He has also established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, having made a total of 332 appearances for Liverpool.
At Juventus, after the end of the legendary Gianluigi Buffon’s era, Wojciech Szczesny was the number one for several years. The Pole initially retired in 2024 before continuing his career shortly after and joining Barcelona.
Michele Di Gregorio was expected to follow in Szczesny’s footsteps at Juve, but he is not considered among the absolute top goalkeepers and has not yet fully convinced. This season, the second-choice goalkeeper Mattia Perin has occasionally been preferred over Di Gregorio.
