The much-anticipated transfer of Fisnik Asllani from TSG Hoffenheim to RB Leipzig has unexpectedly fallen through at the last minute.

TSG announced this on Friday evening in an official statement, saying: "TSG Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig were recently in discussions regarding a potential move for Fisnik Asllani. This transfer will not go through due to medical concerns raised by RB Leipzig."

No further details were provided regarding Leipzig's medical concerns. Asllani had traveled to RB's training camp in Austria on Thursday evening to undergo his medical examination. Hoffenheim had previously granted the striker leave for this purpose. However, during the examinations, the concerns arose with the Saxon club, ultimately leading Leipzig to abandon the transfer, which was valued at 25 million Euros, the release clause in Asllani's contract at Hoffenheim.

The Kosovar international was Leipzig's absolute top target for the center-forward position. According to Sky, all aspects of the deal had been agreed upon, and Asllani was set to sign a five-year contract with the Champions League participant until 2031.

Will Fisnik Asllani now move to BVB after all?

Hoffenheim's managing director of sport, Andreas Schicker, emphasized: "The fact that this transfer is now not going through is by no means bad news for us sportingly. It is completely clear to us that Fisnik can perform at the highest physical and sporting level." Asllani had "completed pre-season training at his usual high level and will resume training with the team next week." TSG also stated that they expect the attacker to remain in Kraichgau this summer and not join any other new club.

It remains to be seen whether anything will change regarding this before the end of the transfer window in early September. After all, other prominent clubs have been linked with Asllani in recent months. Borussia Dortmund, among others, is said to have shown great interest in the 23-year-old, who celebrates his 24th birthday on Saturday. Should striker Serhou Guirassy leave BVB this summer, the Black and Yellows might consider pursuing Asllani again, a player that FC Barcelona is also reportedly keeping an eye on.

Hoffenheim signed Asllani from Union Berlin in 2020, but it took several years for the Kosovar to break through at TSG. A loan spell at then second-division side SV Elversberg in the 2024/25 season finally led to his breakthrough, after which Asllani established himself at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga last season. In the 2025/26 season, he scored eleven goals in 35 appearances across all competitions.
