VfB Stuttgart Dominates Weakened HSV, Secures Champions League Spot

Despite a subdued performance from their top scorer Deniz Undav, VfB Stuttgart convincingly defeated a struggling Hamburger SV with a commanding 4-0 victory. The win solidifies Stuttgart's position in the race for a Champions League qualification, while HSV appeared overwhelmed without key players.

VfB Stuttgart showcased a spirited performance, sending a strong message in their pursuit of a Champions League spot. Following a setback against Borussia Dortmund, coach Sebastian Hoeneß's team earned a deserved 4-0 win against newly promoted Hamburger SV. This victory propels them to third place in the league standings, extending their lead over fifth-placed Bayer Leverkusen to four points during this crucial phase of the season.

Angelo Stiller opened the scoring for the dominant VfB in the 22nd minute, followed by Chris Führich's goal in the 32nd minute in front of a crowd of 60,000 spectators. Maximilian Mittelstädt further extended the lead in the 56th minute, and substitute Bilal El Khannouss sealed the emphatic win in the 86th minute. The victory could have been even more decisive, but Deniz Undav missed a penalty kick after a VAR review in the 82nd minute.

Stuttgart to Face Bayern Without Undav Due to Suspension

The Swabians face a significant challenge next Sunday at 5:30 PM CET when they travel to play FC Bayern. Unfortunately, Deniz Undav will be absent for VfB due to his fifth yellow card. Meanwhile, HSV's winless streak continues to four games, but they still maintain a six-point cushion above the relegation playoff spot ahead of their heated Northern derby against Werder Bremen on Saturday at 3:30 PM CET.

Following their disappointing 0-2 loss to BVB, Hoeneß opted for an aggressive offensive strategy, fielding Jamie Leweling and Ermedin Demirovic from the start, supported by the attacking threat of Undav and Führich. HSV, on the other hand, were hampered by the absences of the injured Luka Vuskovic and Albert Sambi Lokonga, as well as Miro Muheim due to suspension.

Undav Involved in Stuttgart's First Two Goals

VfB began the match with high intensity. Undav, the league's leading scorer with 18 goals, had an early chance in the 10th minute but couldn't connect cleanly with the ball. As HSV began to open up the game, VfB capitalized ruthlessly. Stiller calmly finished a well-executed attack involving Undav and Leweling to put his team ahead.

HSV showed flashes of threat, with Ransford Königsdörffer hitting the side netting. However, a careless loss of possession by Albert Grönbaek directly led to VfB's second goal. Undav's clever backheel assist and Demirovic set up Führich, who made no mistake in firing home.

VfB Stuttgart Wastes Further Chances

Stuttgart firmly controlled the game. Demirovic, Führich again, and Undav all missed opportunities to seal the victory earlier. Shortly after halftime, Demirovic squandered another significant chance. Stuttgart's Mittelstädt and Führich were also denied by HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandez. However, a deflected long-range shot from Mittelstädt eventually put the game beyond doubt.

After scoring their third goal, HSV was fortunate that Stuttgart became somewhat wasteful with their subsequent scoring opportunities.
