Thomas Reis, a former Bundesliga coach, is reportedly taking over the vacant coaching position at Trabzonspor. He is well-known in Turkey but currently has a contract with another club.

Several Turkish media outlets report that Trabzonspor officials have agreed to a partnership with Thomas Reis. The 52-year-old previously coached VfL Bochum and FC Schalke 04. He also has experience in Turkey's Süper Lig from his time with Samsunspor. He surprisingly led that club to third place in his first season, but was dismissed in February of the last season while they were in seventh place.

At Trabzonspor, he would succeed Fatih Tekke. Tekke's departure at the end of September caused controversy. Although Tekke resigned, the club's management initially refused to accept the decision. Both parties later agreed to the separation.

Reis is currently under contract with Bulgarian top club Ludogorets until 2027. The season has started well for him there, with seven wins and two draws in nine games. Ludogorets currently sits second in the league table. A transfer fee will likely be required for him to move to Turkey.

If the move happens, Reis would coach a true superstar at Trabzonspor: Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian left Liverpool in the summer after nine years and joined the Turkish club on a free transfer. Trabzonspor's start to the season has been mixed. The club was clearly defeated by Ferencvaros Budapest in the Europa League playoffs (5-0 aggregate) and currently only ranks ninth in the league. Salah himself has managed to score four goals in seven competitive matches for his new employer.
