Luke Littler Achieves Historic First Win in Germany

Darts sensation Luke Littler has achieved a significant milestone, claiming his first-ever victory on German soil by winning Night 8 of the Premier League Darts in Berlin. In a packed Mercedes-Benz Arena, the 19-year-old Englishman captivated over 12,000 fans as he triumphed over former champion Michael van Gerwen, securing a 6-4 win in the final with a magnificent 170 checkout.

This marks Littler's third nightly victory in the prestigious league this season, adding to his successes in Dublin and Cardiff. 'The Nuke' has now ascended to the top of the league table, surpassing Jonny Clayton and solidifying his position as a frontrunner with seven more league nights remaining before the London finals.

Meanwhile, World Championship runner-up Gian van Veen returned to action after recovering from kidney stones, having missed the Dublin event. His comeback in the German capital was short-lived, as he exited in the quarter-finals following a 6-1 defeat to Welsh star Gerwyn Price.

Littler's Long-Awaited German Triumph

Despite his meteoric rise since the 2024 World Championship and an impressive collection of twelve major titles, Littler had surprisingly never secured a tournament win in Germany until now. He has conquered nine of the ten major individual tournaments, with only the European Championship (Dortmund) and the Team World Cup (Frankfurt/Main) still on his wish list, alongside any European Tour or ProTour successes in Germany.

Previously, Littler had experienced a less welcoming atmosphere from German crowds, leading him to avoid German tournaments last year. However, his performance in Berlin was met with overwhelming cheers. Before the event, he further endeared himself to fans by revealing his favourite German footballer and expressing his desire for that player to join Manchester United.

Defending Premier League champion Luke Humphries faced an early exit, losing to Michael van Gerwen in the opening round.
