Karim Adeyemi Debuts for FC Barcelona, Newcomer Abdelkarim Shines
Karim Adeyemi has made his debut for Spanish champions FC Barcelona as they kicked off their pre-season preparations.
The former Dortmund player started in the lineup for the 2-2 draw (1-1) against English second-division side Birmingham City and was substituted at halftime. The match concluded with a penalty shootout, which Birmingham won 3-2 after 90 minutes.
The goals for Hansi Flick's team were scored by another debutant: the 18-year-old Egyptian, Hamza Abdelkarim, who was signed from Al Ahly in June. He found the net for the visitors both before and after the break.
Also in attendance was English international Jude Bellingham, who played for Birmingham before his move to BVB in 2020 and was extensively celebrated by the fans upon his return.
New Barcelona world champions such as Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, and Pau Cubarsí were not yet part of the squad. National team goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who is reportedly close to a loan move to Ajax Amsterdam, was also absent.
Adeyemi signed a contract with Barcelona until 2031. According to media reports, the Catalan club had previously agreed on a base transfer fee of 22 million euros with Borussia Dortmund.
