Luis Enrique Discusses PSG Salary Leak: "One of the World's Best-Paid Coaches"

The Spanish coach is handsomely compensated in Paris and is pleased with his earnings. He is now reportedly in line for a further salary increase.

Luis Enrique, manager of Paris Saint-Germain, recently addressed the leak of coaching salaries published in the French sports newspaper L'Equipe. He made light of the situation while simultaneously confirming the substantial remuneration he receives from the Parisian club.

According to the report, Enrique is – unsurprisingly – the highest-paid coach in Ligue 1. He currently earns close to one million euros per month, which is nearly three times more than Paulo Fonseca of Lyon (€350,000) and four times more than Habib Beye of Marseille (€230,000), who occupy the next spots in the salary ranking.

While Luis Enrique's current contract extends until 2027, club management reportedly aims to sign him to an extension that would boost his annual salary from 12 million euros to 20 million euros.

Luis Enrique: 'It's Not Appropriate to Discuss'

During a press conference held before Friday's league match against Toulouse, Luis Enrique unexpectedly commented on the salary report. When questioned if his high earnings influenced the team, he expressed surprise at the journalist's query, retorting, "Do you believe my salary is a topic of concern for the players?"

He added, "It's not appropriate to discuss it. Yes, I am one of the best-paid coaches in the world – and that is good for me."

Luis Enrique Could Climb to Fourth in Global Salary Ranking

Should Luis Enrique's annual salary indeed increase to 20 million euros with a contract extension, reports suggest he would ascend to fourth place among the world's highest-paid coaches. The ranking is reportedly led by Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid, with an estimated annual income of 30 million euros. Following him are Simone Inzaghi (Inter Milan) at 25 million euros and Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) at 24 million euros.
