"He has brutal talent": FC Bayern's surprise signing impresses Leon Goretzka greatly

Another debutant at FC Bayern: Bara Sapoko Ndiaye made his first Bundesliga appearance for the German record champions' professionals on Saturday.

The 18-year-old midfielder came on in the 84th minute for Jamal Musiala during FCB's 5-0 away win in St. Pauli, getting his first taste of Bundesliga action.

Ndiaye continues Bayern's youth development trend: Nine players from their own academy have already debuted for the FCB professionals this season. While Ndiaye isn't considered a homegrown talent, having only joined in January from Gambinos Stars Africa, it's still remarkable that another teenager received his first chance with the first team.

"He was unfortunately injured, so the opportunity would probably have come sooner," said Bayern's Sporting Director Max Eberl after the match in Hamburg. Indeed, Ndiaye had already battled several injuries in his four months in Munich, most recently being sidelined for three weeks due to a capsule injury. However, according to Eberl, this enforced break was not apparent in the closing stages at St. Pauli: "He settled into the game very well. No nervousness was visible."

Goretzka on Ndiaye: "He did a great job today"

Leon Goretzka also has a high opinion of his relatively new teammate. The newly crowned season's top scorer for Bayern praised him, saying: "You could see that he has brutal talent and is a good guy. He's very grateful." He attributes the increased integration of young players to head coach Vincent Kompany: "That speaks for a brave coach. (...) He did a great job today."

Ndiaye's chances of playing on Saturday were indeed good, as Kompany had significantly rotated his squad between the two Champions League ties against Real Madrid, making seven changes and giving several established stars a rest.

As early as mid-February, Kompany had words of praise for his new protégé Ndiaye, stating: "We are looking forward to his personality. He has shown that he belongs to the talents we have in the Bayern youth system. Things are going well for him."

Ndiaye's medium and long-term prospects at Säbener Straße remain uncertain. Currently, he is only allowed to play for the FCB professionals; regulations prevent the Senegalese from gaining match practice in the reserve team. He is only on loan until the summer, with his contract at Gambinos Stars running until 2027.

Ndiaye, incidentally, was the first player to arrive in Munich through the Joint Venture Red&Gold Football. "Bara is now the first to truly arrive at the top," said Bayern's Sporting Director Max Eberl shortly after the rather surprising transfer in January: "He should simply adapt and get to know European football." Since Saturday, he has arrived even further at the top and has learned even more about European football.
