Borussia Dortmund is reportedly showing interest in signing Eintracht Frankfurt's full-back Elias Baum. According to a report from Sky, the 20-year-old was suggested as a potential reinforcement during an internal meeting at Borussia Dortmund by Sporting Director Ole Book.
Book and Baum have a prior connection from their time together at SV Elversberg, a recently promoted Bundesliga team. Baum was on loan at Elversberg during the 2024/25 season, while Book was still in charge of the sporting direction for the Saarland club.
At Elversberg, Baum, who can play both right and left-back, quickly made an impression. He played in 33 out of 34 possible games in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring three goals and assisting seven others.
In the past season, Baum faced significant setbacks due to a thigh injury and an MCL tear, which kept him sidelined for a considerable period. Consequently, he only managed five appearances for Frankfurt. Despite these challenges, it is understood that the new SGE coach, Adi Hütter, is a strong admirer of the 20-year-old and plans to rely on him for the upcoming season.
Could Elias Baum Arrive If Yan Couto Departs?
Dortmund appears to be adequately covered in the full-back positions with Julian Ryerson and Yan Couto on the right, and Daniel Svensson and Almugera Kabar on the left. Any movement in this area of the squad would likely only occur if one of the current players were to leave, with Yan Couto being the subject of some transfer rumors.
Furthermore, Dortmund would need to pay a transfer fee to Eintracht for Baum, as the four-time German U21 international's contract in Frankfurt is valid until June 30, 2028.
