Snowboardcrosser Leon Ulbricht, 21, has clinched the coveted overall World Cup title in a thrilling finale. Securing second place at the final race of the season in Mount St. Anne, Canada, was enough for Ulbricht to outmaneuver his closest rivals, Aidan Chollet (France) and Adam Lambert (Australia). Ulbricht becomes only the second German to claim this prestigious title, following Martin Nörl.

Ulbricht entered the showdown with a minimal one-point lead over France's Chollet, with Australia's Lambert also lurking 42 points behind. Despite the pressure, Ulbricht stated beforehand, "The yellow bib currently means nothing to me."

The race saw unexpected twists: Chollet was surprisingly eliminated in the quarter-finals. Ulbricht himself faced a scare in the semi-finals but dramatically advanced to the final via a photo finish. His second-place finish in the final, behind the day's winner Lambert, was sufficient to secure the overall victory. "It was an intense day, so many close heats," Ulbricht remarked afterwards.

In the final standings, Ulbricht accumulated 435 points, ahead of Lambert (413) and Chollet (383). "For me, it was just a normal race; I wasn't calculating or anything, I completely blocked out the overall World Cup. That it turned out this way is, of course, absolutely amazing," Ulbricht shared, echoing his celebratory sentiment. Martin Nörl concluded the season in ninth place with 185 points.

For the sports soldier representing SC Rötteln, this overall victory marks a conciliatory end to a season that included an unfortunate exit at the Olympics in Italy, where he collided with Nörl and was eliminated. His post-Olympic performance saw him achieve four World Cup podium finishes.
