The Italian press was abuzz with praise for Robin Gosens following his match-winning performance for Fiorentina.
The Gazzetta dello Sport lauded Gosens’ impact, stating, ‘Gosens’ personality and charisma propel AC Fiorentina to success.’ Meanwhile, the Corriere dello Sport exclaimed, ‘Gosens, mamma mia! His goal secures victory for Florence and likely their Serie A survival.’
The 31-year-old German international, a 24-time capped national player, was widely recognized for scoring what was described by the newspaper as ‘the most important goal of the season’ for Fiorentina.
His header in the 28th minute secured a vital 1-0 home victory against Lazio Rome, earning AC Fiorentina crucial points in their Serie A relegation battle. Gosens rose highest at the far post, with the ball ricocheting off the inside post into the net. This marked the left-back’s third goal of the season.
Fiorentina Boosts Serie A Survival Chances
Gosens was substituted in the 80th minute to a standing ovation. Post-match, he expressed his satisfaction, stating on DAZN, ‘We knew this was a great opportunity and we didn’t want to let it slip away. We deserved the win. It gives us confidence for the upcoming games.’ Gosens also admitted to having dealt with physical issues, including a tendon inflammation that had troubled him for an extended period. ‘I was determined to stay on the pitch,’ he emphasized, before embracing coach Paolo Vanoli.
Fiorentina extended their unbeaten run to five consecutive matches and climbed to 15th place in the table with their win over Lazio. They now hold an eight-point cushion above the relegation zone. This is a significant turnaround from mid-December, when Fiorentina languished at the bottom of the table with only six points.
