Robert Lewandowski Confirms Departure from FC Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski will be leaving FC Barcelona after four years. The striker announced on Instagram that his contract will expire in the summer, and he will be departing the club thereafter.

In his statement, Lewandowski wrote: «After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to move on. I leave with the feeling that the mission is accomplished. 4 seasons, 3 championships.»

The Polish international elaborated: «I will never forget the affection the fans have shown me from my very first days. Catalonia is my home. Thank you to everyone I met along the way during these wonderful four years.»

Lewandowski also thanked President Joan Laporta, «who gave me the opportunity to experience the most incredible chapter of my career.» He concluded with the words: «Barca is back where it belongs. Visca el Barca. Visca Catalunya.»

Where is Lewandowski Heading Next?

The Pole joined Barcelona in 2022 from FC Bayern Munich. In 191 competitive matches for the Catalans so far, he has scored 119 goals and provided 24 assists.

While Barcelona reportedly offered the now 37-year-old a contract extension, it was apparently on reduced financial terms and with less guaranteed playing time.

There are already numerous interested parties for Lewandowski’s future. Besides clubs from the USA and Saudi Arabia, a move to Italy is also being speculated. Juventus Turin, in particular, is said to have great interest in signing him.

Lewandowski: A Dream Offer from Chicago?

Recently, it was reported that Lewandowski had received a dream offer from Chicago Fire. Their Sporting Director, Gregg Broughton, had already publicly confirmed their interest in Lewandowski.

And the figures being discussed are staggering: the offer from the USA is said to be the most lucrative currently available to the striker. Up to 15 million euros gross per season are being discussed, with performance-based bonuses potentially increasing the total volume to up to 20 million euros per year.

For Lewandowski, these sums, combined with a central leading role in MLS, could be the deciding factor for a move across the Atlantic.
