Real Madrid Secures Victory After Four Matches, But Bernabéu Boos Camavinga

Real Madrid has finally tasted victory after a winless streak of four matches, following their Champions League exit against Bayern Munich. In Spain’s La Liga, the «Royals» fulfilled their obligation against relegation-threatened Deportivo Alavés, winning 2-1 (1-0), thus keeping alive their hopes for at least one title this season.

However, the frustration from the Bayern Munich knockout is far from over for Real Madrid fans, a sentiment Eduardo Camavinga experienced firsthand. With six league games remaining, Álvaro Arbeloa’s team trails FC Barcelona by six points. Kylian Mbappé (30th minute) and Vinícius Júnior (50th minute) scored for Madrid, while Toni Martínez netted a late consolation for the visitors (90+3).

Barcelona has the opportunity to widen the gap on Wednesday (9:30 PM) with a win against Celta Vigo.

Before the match, the star-studded squad was initially honored with a guard of honor. The U19 team received considerable applause at the Bernabéu – the royal youth academy has achieved something the first team hasn’t: a title. On Monday, Real won the Youth League final and presented the trophy.

Six days after their Champions League quarter-final elimination by Bayern, a deflected shot from Mbappé gave the first team the lead. Brazilian defender Éder Militão then experienced double misfortune: he hit the post with a shot attempt, sustained an injury, and was immediately substituted. Antonio Rüdiger came on for him in the 45th minute.

After Bayern Knockout: Real Wins Again — Camavinga Booed

In the second half, Vinícius Júnior extended the lead to 2-0 from distance, but he refrained from celebratory gestures, instead putting his hands together apologetically. However, the Bernabéu has not yet forgiven everyone: Camavinga, who had a difficult evening in Munich with a yellow-red card in the 3-4 loss, was audibly booed upon his substitution (63rd minute) and during subsequent ball touches.

Alavés fought against the defeat, but Toni Martínez (45+5th minute) and Calebe (82nd minute) were denied by the post, and their goal came too late.
