Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly looking to strengthen its forward line this summer, with Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane said to be on their shortlist.
According to the ‘Bayern-Insider’ podcast by Bild, the English striker is a top priority for Paris Saint-Germain.
Sources close to the club have indicated that PSG is saving for a ‘super striker transfer.’ Given the limited number of high-profile forwards available for a move to the French capital, Kane appears to be a strong candidate.
Kane’s contract with Bayern Munich runs until 2027. As it stands, he will enter the final year of his contract next season. However, it is unlikely he will leave the German record champions, even if PSG were to offer substantial financial incentives, as noted by Christian Falk. Instead, an extension of his contract is considered highly probable.
Will Kane Sign a New Contract Before the World Cup?
Bayern officials have recently expressed confidence in reaching an agreement for a contract extension. Former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated to t-online, «It’s known that he had a release clause. He didn’t activate it, signaling his commitment to stay in Munich. The relevant operational figures will hold discussions with him after the season, as planned,» with the clear objective of extending his contract.
Sporting director Max Eberl also announced that discussions with Kane’s representatives are scheduled for the coming weeks. «As Kalle said, this is the club’s voice. This has been discussed with Harry. We will sit down before the World Cup and try to build something together,» he commented on the sidelines of Bayern Munich’s trip to Paris for the Champions League semi-final first leg.
Kane himself has repeatedly stated recently that he feels very comfortable in Munich. This suggests that a return to the Premier League in the near future, a topic of much speculation, is not currently on the cards. The speculation was largely driven by the possibility of Kane breaking Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League scoring record. The legendary striker leads the all-time list with 260 goals, while Kane is second with 213.
Kane is Having an Outstanding Season for FC Bayern
Kane joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 for a reported €100 million and has since scored 138 goals in 141 appearances. This season, the 32-year-old has registered 54 goals and seven assists. Alongside Michael Olise and Luis Diaz, he forms one of Europe’s most dangerous attacking trios.
Even in the spectacular 4-5 first-leg defeat against PSG, the ‘OKD’ trio was in goal-scoring form, collectively reaching the 100-goal milestone. The second leg is scheduled for the upcoming Wednesday.
