Pep Guardiola Forbids Celebration, Not Even a Beer, for Manchester City Stars After FA Cup Win

Despite securing the FA Cup title, Pep Guardiola has imposed a strict celebration ban on his Manchester City players.

The Spanish coach stated after the 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, «Today, we go home. Not even a beer. No, no, no — there is no time for celebrations.»

Instead, his players are instructed to focus on recovery to be in optimal condition for their two remaining Premier League matches. The Citizens are currently just two points behind Arsenal in the race for the English championship, meaning they still have a strong chance of clinching the title.

Guardiola’s squad will have very little time for rest. They are scheduled to play away at AFC Bournemouth next Tuesday, followed by a final showdown on the last day of the season against Aston Villa five days later. Manchester City will be reliant on Arsenal dropping points. The Londoners will first host Burnley on Monday, before facing Crystal Palace on Sunday, the same day as City’s match.

Antoine Semenyo Scores Decisive Goal for Manchester City

For City, the FA Cup marks their second title of the current season, having already won the League Cup. Antoine Semenyo (72′) scored the winning goal with a spectacular effort, securing a celebrated victory at Wembley Stadium. This was Guardiola and his team’s fourth consecutive final appearance, but their first title since 2023.

In the first half at Wembley, City had more of the play, but neither team created significant clear-cut chances. Chelsea grew more dangerous as the half progressed, primarily through counter-attacks. Shortly before halftime, City superstar Erling Haaland (43′) was denied by Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from a tight angle.

Immediately after the break, Semenyo had a good opportunity from a cross by Nico O’Reilly but headed over the bar. The 26-year-old found his mark at the start of the final phase, skillfully flicking the ball over the line from a Haaland delivery.
