The latest muscle injury sustained by offensive prodigy Lennart Karl is reportedly causing FC Bayern Munich officials to reconsider their approach.
According to a report by kicker, FCB views the increasing number of muscle injuries among young talents from their own academy as an ‘obvious problem’.
After already missing about a month due to a muscle injury in the final weeks of the previous season, the 18-year-old suffered a torn muscle bundle shortly before the World Cup with the German national team. This injury will prevent Karl from participating in the tournament in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
With several other promising Bayern youth players, who are close to the first team, also currently battling muscle injuries, the German record champions, according to kicker, no longer believe it’s a coincidence. David Santos Daiber has been sidelined since mid-March, and Guido Della Rovere, Maycon Cardozo, and Vincent Manuba are currently dealing with thigh injuries, similar to Daiber.
Karl’s latest muscle injury has made the issue at FCB ‘even more explosive,’ writes kicker. The clear stance is that the matter must be addressed internally to prevent such a high number of injuries in the future.
Lennart Karl Injured in Final Training Before Last World Cup Test
Karl has since returned to Germany following the confirmation of his World Cup absence and is already working on his rehabilitation with FCB’s medical staff in Munich. «Missing a World Cup at such short notice is naturally extremely painful, and the news was a shock to all of FC Bayern,» stated Sporting Director Max Eberl, expressing sympathy for the super talent.
Karl sustained the injury on Friday during the DFB team’s final training session before the decisive World Cup warm-up match against co-host USA (2:1). According to national coach Julian Nagelsmann, the Bayern youngster will be out ‘between four and six weeks, perhaps a little longer.’ Assan Ouedraogo from RB Leipzig has been called up as Karl’s replacement.
The attacking midfielder himself also commented on the bitter disappointment: «I don’t even know where to start,» Karl wrote on Instagram, «but it hurts indescribably to have to miss the biggest tournament.» Based on recent performances and a very strong showing in the second-to-last friendly against Finland (4:0) at the end of May, Karl could have had good chances for a starting position in the German team at the World Cup. Instead, Leroy Sane might now take his place in the attack.
