Last winter, the Rhineland club found a gem at Manchester City; this time, a player from Manchester United is in their sights. Chido Obi could be heading to the Bundesliga.
According to consistent reports from English journalist Pete O’Rourke and Sky, Köln and Manchester United are in discussions regarding a loan transfer for the 18-year-old striker.
Obi, a Dane with Nigerian roots, first gained recognition beyond England’s borders when he joined FC Arsenal at the young age of 14. In 2024, he moved to United, where he celebrated his Premier League debut at 17.
He has made eight appearances for the professional team of the 20-time English champions so far, including one full 90-minute game in the season before last. However, in the past season, he was only included in the Premier League matchday squad once and was exclusively active for the Red Devils’ U21 team.
Simpson-Pusey Permanently Signed After Loan from Man City
Köln could certainly use a backup for their center forward, Ragnar Ache. With a height of 1.88 meters, Obi brings considerable physicality to the table.
During the most recent winter transfer window, Köln signed Jahmai Simpson-Pusey from Manchester City. The young central defender (20) was initially loaned until the end of the season and then permanently signed with a contract running until 2030.
