Four-time All-Star Trae Young has decided to remain in the US capital, agreeing to a four-year contract with the Washington Wizards.
Young’s new deal is reportedly set to pay the 27-year-old guard $212 million and includes a player option for the fourth year, according to ESPN.
Young was traded to Washington in January, following seven years with the Atlanta Hawks, at his own request.
At the Wizards, Young is expected to lead an otherwise very young roster alongside Anthony Davis, who joined the team in February from the Dallas Mavericks. With a wealth of talent around him, including Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson, Will Riley, and Bub Carrington, another diamond in the rough will join the team as the Wizards hold the first pick in the NBA Draft.
Trae Young and Anthony Davis: ‘The Players We Want to Build With’
«In the few games Trae was able to play, you could already see the presence he projects, how he draws the defense, and how he can create opportunities for our players,» Washington’s GM Will Dawkins told ESPN in May.
Dawkins added that Young and Davis are «the players we want to build with.»
In the 2018 NBA Draft, Young was selected fifth overall by the Dallas Mavericks and subsequently traded to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Luka Doncic (No. 3). In 498 regular-season games to date, Young has averaged 25.1 points and an impressive 9.8 assists. In 27 playoff appearances with the Hawks, he has recorded 26.4 points and 9.0 assists per game.
