Bayern Munich’s Sporting Director Max Eberl is also hoping for success from the women’s team in the final stretch of the season, following the men’s championship. The 52-year-old stated on Tuesday that he is in constant communication with their Director, Bianca Rech. «They have always set the pace for us. They were first in the cup semi-finals, they were first in the Champions League semi-finals. Then I always said, we have to follow suit, we have to follow suit. Now we were the first to celebrate the championship, so they have to follow suit now.»
While the men’s team secured the title prematurely on Sunday with a 4-2 victory against VfB Stuttgart, the women’s team can seize their first match point on Wednesday at Union Berlin. «It’s simply great and also shows how strong FC Bayern is,» said Eberl. «It’s just fun when the club has such success and you motivate each other to a certain extent, support each other.»
Both teams are still competing in the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League. The possibility of a treble for both teams is «extraordinary,» Eberl emphasized. «I don’t even know if this has ever happened in European football.»
Coach Vincent Kompany is also looking forward to the women’s semi-final clash against FC Barcelona. He believes the match will be of the «highest» quality in Europe. «The Allianz Arena should actually be sold out, that’s my opinion,» he stated, as the women aim to secure a favorable position in their Champions League semi-final first leg at home on Saturday. The men will face defending champions Paris Saint-Germain on April 28th. «Hopefully, we will also get some of this momentum from our women,» said Kompany. «But we will definitely be watching what they do.»
