Mats Hummels Praises Bayern Star Luis Diaz: «Best Game I’ve Ever Seen From Him»

Mats Hummels, a 2014 World Cup winner and current TV pundit, has enthusiastically lauded Bayern Munich’s Luis Diaz for his display in the Champions League semi-final first leg against PSG (4-5).

«For me, Luis Diaz was the best man on the pitch today. The best game I’ve ever seen from him. It was incredible,» Hummels stated on Prime Video, commenting on the Colombian’s performance.

Diaz was instrumental in the early stages, winning the penalty that Harry Kane converted to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. He also sealed the 4-5 final score with a brilliant individual effort following a superb pass from Harry Kane. Diaz controlled the ball, skillfully dribbled past PSG captain Marquinhos, and finished memorably.

This particular moment clearly stood out for Hummels, but he also praised the Bayern winger’s overall contribution. «Because he normally comes with deep runs, with his finishes: Today he carried the ball, he made dribbles. How he sent Marquinhos to the floor for the 4-5 was breathtaking,» remarked the former defender.

«I have never seen Luis Diaz play at this level before today. It was truly fantastic,» he concluded.

However, UEFA opted differently from Hummels, naming PSG’s star attacker Ousmane Dembele as the ‘Man of the Match’. In the upcoming week, it will be crucial for Bayern that Luis Diaz delivers another strong performance as they aim to overcome their slim deficit in front of their home crowd.

Luis Diaz’s 2025/26 Season Statistics:
