«I’ve Never Seen a Game Like It in My Life»: World Champion Amazed by FC Bayern’s 4-5 Loss to PSG

Following an astonishing offensive spectacle at the Parc des Princes, the resilient Bayern Munich players made a confident vow for the final.

Joshua Kimmich, speaking to Prime Video after FC Bayern’s wild and historic 4-5 (2-3) defeat in the Champions League semi-final first leg against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, stated, «You sit in the locker room and have the feeling: anything is still possible. We simply have to win.»

Jonathan Tah echoed this sentiment, adding, «It’s only 1-0 – and we’ve shown that we can score at least two goals. That’s why we go into the second leg with full confidence, give everything in the Allianz Arena, and want to reach the final.» The final is scheduled for May 30th in Budapest, with the return match against Paris taking place next Wednesday in Munich.

The first leg was the highest-scoring semi-final in the competition’s history. Bayern had only conceded five goals in a Champions League match once before: in the 1994/95 semi-final second leg against eventual winners Ajax Amsterdam (2-5).

Christoph Kramer: «That was wild»

«It was expected to be a back-and-forth game – but not this open,» said Kimmich. «It feels strange because we lost,» he admitted, but continued, «The situation is simple: we have to win. And we, sitting in the locker room, believe in victory.»

TV pundits were also deeply impressed by what they witnessed. «It was the Wild West, I’ve never seen a game like it in my life,» said 2014 World Champion Christoph Kramer. «It could have ended 7-2 for Bayern or 7-2 for PSG, it was truly incredible. It was a world-class game, simply good from all 22 players.»

Mats Hummels chimed in, «It was a bit like Inter against Barca last year in the semi-final, but this was still a notch above.»
