Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has acted decisively to find a successor for Antonio Conte, who left SSC Napoli of his own volition. The President of the second-placed team in Italy’s Serie A is said to have opted for Max Allegri, who only became available on Monday after AC Milan’s embarrassing failure to qualify for the Champions League. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, a complete verbal agreement has been reached. Allegri is expected to sign a two-year contract with Napoli and, unlike his former club, would therefore be active in the premier European competition next season.
The Tuscan coach prevailed in the final selection against other candidates, such as the departing Bologna coach Vincenzo Italiano.
Max Allegri’s Scudetto Success
Allegri and Napoli have advanced negotiations significantly, but before the club can introduce him as their new coach, there is one final hurdle. He must terminate his contract with AC Milan and reach an agreement on a potential severance payment. Currently, he is only on leave. Only once this formality is completed can he legally commit to the southern Italian champions.
Throughout his career, Allegri has won the league title six times with AC Milan and Juventus Turin. Nothing less will be expected of him at Napoli.
