With Julian Brandt’s departure from BVB confirmed, a potential move to the Premier League is gaining traction. Reports indicate that Leeds United are showing significant interest in signing the 30-year-old attacking midfielder.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are actively seeking offensive reinforcements during the upcoming transfer window and have identified Brandt as a prime target.
After securing their promotion back to the Premier League just last year and successfully avoiding relegation in their first season back, LUFC aims to compete in the upper echelons of the league in the coming years. Brandt, with his extensive experience, could be a valuable asset in achieving this goal.
An added advantage for any interested club is that Brandt will be available on a free transfer following his exit from Dortmund. Brandt and Dortmund mutually agreed not to extend his contract, which expires on June 30th, after seven years together.
Julian Brandt Linked with Multiple Clubs
During his time with Dortmund, Brandt made 307 appearances, scoring 57 goals and providing 70 assists. However, his trophy cabinet with the Black and Yellows only includes the DFB-Pokal in 2021. He narrowly missed out on ultimate title glory with BVB in the 2021 Champions League final against Real Madrid and on the final matchday of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season.
In recent weeks, Brandt has been rumored to be on the radar of several clubs. The Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport recently reported that Brandt is a target for AS Roma, where former teammate Donyell Malen is reportedly a strong advocate for his signing. Furthermore, strong interest from Atletico Madrid has also been widely reported.
A move back to the Bundesliga remains a possibility. «I wouldn’t rule anything out in principle,» Brandt stated to Sky shortly before the end of the season, adding, «But there are things I prefer, and things I prefer less at this point. There are one or two thoughts. But everything in its own time.» In the past, rumors have circulated about interest from SV Werder Bremen.
